General Description

Serious games are fun games that are developed for educational purposes. These games are called ‘serious’, because a serious message with educational value is accompanied in the game. Serious games are generally simulations of real-world events or processes designed for the purpose of solving a problem. Although serious games can be entertaining, their main purpose is to educate participants.

In education games might be a good addition to the more classical methods to teach children new skills. Games are an original and fun way to deliver a message to your students. On top of that you might find that your students are more focussed on the topic you want to teach them, because they get to learn while playing. Lastly games provide the option to receive feedback, either  from the game itself or by social interaction with other players, e.g. when they compete with each other.
