Working Group:Low Achievers in ScienceCountry:LatviaLanguages:EnglishAge of students (target group/s):13-14Contact person information:Inese Liepina Teacher's experience: Aija Bruna from Dzerve Primary School sometimes uses the “student/teacher” method. She splits up students in pairs in which one is a teacher and the other is a student. This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. For example, she teaches co-ordinates this way. While “the teacher” names the coordinates of a place, “the student” has to find it on a map. Then the roles switch. To prepare tasks for classmates can be assigned as homework. GLOBE project experience: During the GLOBE Games 2014 in Salacgriva, local students prepared tasks connected with GLOBE project investigations for students from a near city. Groups of students chose a topic in which they were interested (atmosphere, hydrology, land cover investigations) and prepared short activities. The activities were „tested“ on teachers. I the process, students learned everything about their topic and no one was left behind!Strong points and opportunities:The student (who is „a teacher“) has to learn as much as possible in order to give tasks for others. Students are highly motivated.Limitations:The teacher should know how to form pairs or groups to be sure that all students participate equally.Added value with regards to the 3 topics of the MASS project:WG3 – all students are motivated, not only those interested in the topic.Any prerequisites needed:None | ||
